Adventures Panama / Aventuras Panama
July 26, 2010
Panama is a paradise for the adventure traveler with almost one third of the country still covered with virgin rainforest. Just reaching a destination becomes part of the adventure. The Spanish used Panama as a base for conquering the New World. They left behind ruins that today transport the visitor back to a time when pirates roamed the oceans. The isthmus serves as a connector between North and South America, which explains in part its huge biodiversity. The narrowness of the country also allows the visitor to go back and forth between the Atlantic/Caribbean and Pacific Oceans in just a couple of hours! There are three distinct indigenous cultures. And yes, you will also have an opportunity to see the “big ditch,” better known as the Panama Canal, one of the eight wonders of the world.
But the best part is that Panama is still an unknown destination. Even though Panama City is a bustling international business and banking center hosting thousands of visitors, very few stay to enjoy its natural and historic attractions. We will take you to places where you won’t see another soul…. Panama… yours to discover!
Aventuras Panamá has been operating since 1994 when its owner, Javier Romero Gerbaud (a Panamanian with an engineering degree from Purdue University and an MBA), decided to give something back to his old time friends, pioneer farmers and natives that inhabited what is today the Chagres National Park. He created a journey that no one thought possible. From his early teens Javier spent most of his free time exploring what was to become the Chagres National Park, and on many occasions he was afforded the hospitality of those who now are the most important asset of Aventuras Panamá, our local guides.
With the Chagres Challenge, our first and signature trip, we forged our mission: to provide unique, safe adventures to the public while providing the locals of the remote areas we visit an opportunity to improve their living standards through green and eco-friendly professions.
Our guides, most having worked for Aventuras Panama for more than 10 years, know the pristine areas that we showcase like the back of their hand because its their backyard. They have been trained with the best standards in the industry on skills and safety. In addition, to enrich our guests’ experiences we also provide guides that are trained naturalists and who are bilingual to broaden the scope of our trips.
Within a few years Aventuras expanded its whitewater rafting services to other pristine Panamanian rivers, and incorporated new multisport adventures that include expedition kayaking, hiking, camping, bicycling, and more.
Today, as an inbound tour operator we provide for all the needs of our customers, from the hard core adventures to those seeking a more sedate and plush 5 star lodging, as well as transfers, and activities. We can offer pre-designed 1-3 week packages to a customized itinerary that satisfies the most particular needs.
We operate throughout the country of Panama, with our most popular offerings being the Chagres National Park, San Blas or Kuna Yala, the highlands of the Chiriqui province, and yes, even metropolitan Panama City.
Our specialty is small groups that want to experience Panama’s pristine natural settings as long as possible, but we also tailor make trips for those wishing to sleep in the comfort of 5-star plush accommodations after experiencing one of our day trips.
If you wish to add a unique and somewhat unknown destination to your current travels, and wish to rely on the experience of Panama´s adventure pioneer, we would like to get in touch with you.
