We run three college study abroad programs in northern Brazil with different themes-in Belém on Amazon resource management and human ecology; in Fortaleza on development and social justice; and in Salvador on public health and community development. (SEATTLE) – September 9, 2008 – The first of two 2008 Adventure Travel World Summit (ATWS) events organized by the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) set event attendance records with more than 700 representatives from 33 countries participating in the sold-out, September 3-7 event in São Paulo, Brazil. The Summit was its first ever outside of North America. More than a show of numbers and a reflection of growing sector interest, industry progress was made on multiple fronts. BOULDER, CO (September 9, 2008) – Core outdoor retailers kept up the positive momentum in July, in spite of tough economic conditions. Sales in all three channels (specialty, chain, internet)* totaled $372M, a full 10% above July 2007, according to the July edition of The Outdoor Topline Report, produced for Outdoor Industry Association by the Leisure Trends Group. Once again, items pertaining to camping drove big increases this month. Sales of equipment and equipment accessories continued to thrive in core outdoor stores as quarter three got underway. All equipment sales totaled $60M, gaining 14% over July 2007. Tents, sleeping bags, packs and climbing gear each made double-digit gains for the month. Equipment accessories also sold well, bringing in $123M in July and growing 14% in dollar sales over July 2007.
